This amazing baby food puree is part of the serious – Sweet Potato Baby Food – 3 Delicious Ways

To make this well-balanced baby puree – we start by gently steaming the sweet potato, carrot, and cauliflower until just tender. Then, we add those veggies to a blender along with a big pinch of chia seeds. Next, we will add a little liquid to thin out these root veggies before pureeing them for 1-2 minutes or until they are creamy and smooth.

Both of my babies loved this puree served along with a side of homemade apple puree, but you could also add in some plain whole-milk yogurt if you want.

Ingredients

  • 2 sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 large carrot, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup cauliflower florets
  • 1/4 teaspoon chia seeds

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, bring 2 inches of water to a boil. In a steamer basket, add in the sweet potato, carrot and cauliflower, place basket over boiling water and cover. Steam for 12-15 minutes or until all ingredients are tender when pricked with a fork. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Reserve steamer water.
  • Transfer the sweet potatoes, carrots and cauliflower to a blender or food processor and add in the chia seeds. Add in 1/2 cup liquid (steamer water, breast milk, formula, stock or water).
  • Puree all of the ingredient at high speed for 1-2 minutes or until you reach your desired consistency. Add in additional liquid in 1/4 cup increments if puree is too thick. I had to add in 1 cup of reserved steamer water to the puree pictured above.
